Edith Mitchell Health Initiative

About

Edith Mitchell Health Initiative (EMHI) began as an idea to provide a financial opportunity for aspiring nurses attending Bishop State Community College and Tuskegee University. This foundation has expanded to include health initiatives for African American communities. The EMHI is named after Edith Mitchell. Mitchell founded the nursing program and empowered students at Carver State Technical College (now affiliated with Bishop State Community College). Hundreds of nurses owe their career to the time and talents Mitchell exuded. She demanded perfection from nursing professionals and their commitment to excellence and compassion for their patients. Mitchell was a proud graduate of Tuskegee Institute. She began her career in Tuskegee, Alabama caring for cadets as well as residents. Her compassion for people and their health is the core foundation of EMHI.

The Edith Mitchell Health Initiative provides financial scholarships and health services to the community through generous gifts and donations
